Neither of the two college football rivalries claiming to be the South’s oldest have played more games than Richmond-William & Mary.
The Spiders and Tribe meet in the Capital Cup Saturday on ASN for the 127th time — more than North Carolina-Virginia (121 games) and Auburn-Georgia (120 games), though both those rivalries started earlier (1892).
The Virginia rivals first met in 1898 with Richmond winning, 15-0. William & Mary leads the series (61-60-5) but hasn’t won since 2011 (25-23).
Only Wisconsin-Minnesota, Lafayette-Lehigh, Princeton-Yale and Harvard-Yale have played more games than Richmond-William & Mary.

Richmond’s Brian Brown, an unsung hero in the Spiders’ 8-2 season, is CAA Football’s No. 6 all-time receiving leader (3,818 yards). The senior is first in CAAF and fourth in FCS with 1,100 yards. William & Mary’s Kendell Anderson has five 100-yard rushing games this season and he’s hoping for a sixth to end his career with another 1,000-yard season. Marshall goes for its fourth win in a disappointing season, but the Thundering Herd is coming off an impressive 42-17 victory against Middle Tennessee last Saturday on ASN.
