Five observations from the past week in college basketball:
Pat Andree is a Lehigh freshman who tied a school record by knocking down 10 3-pointers in a 100-67 win over St Francis (Pa.). Andree added 8 rebounds for the night and the 10 3’s tied for the most threes made in a game this year in the NCAA. Pat is shooting 51% from three-point land and he was 10-of-12 overall from the floor in the win over St Francis.
B.J. Johnson led LaSalle with 35 points on 10 of 16 from the floor, 3 of 6 from three-point range and 12 of 14 from the line (86%) in defeating Florida Gulf Coast 84-80. The transfer from Syracuse is the Explorers’ leading scorer and rebounder this season.
Alec Peters is the nation’s second leading scorer and led Valparaiso with 29 points and 15 rebounds in a 89-71 win over Indiana State. Peters was 9 of 18 from the floor and 3 of 6 from the line. Peters, who has scored more than 20 points in all 11 games this year, posted his fifth double-double.
The Brothers Lawson both posted double-doubles in an overtime time win at Oklahoma. Dedric (26 points, 12 rebounds) and K.J. (19 points, 13 rebounds) combined for 17 of 29 from the floor (59%), 2 of 5 from three-points (40%) and were perfect – 9 for 9 – from the line in a Memphis road win at Oklahoma.
The ETSU Buccaneers went on the road and picked up two wins this week. They started by defeating Mississippi State, 67-65, on Hanner Mosquera-Perea’s tip in with 1.4 seconds left to seal the win against the SEC foe. ETSU finished the week by traveling to Morehead St and winning 78-68 behind T.J Cromer’s 23 points and 7 assists. ETSU has won seven of their last eight games with the only loss coming at Dayton. Their 9-2 start is the best since 1990-91.
